Theodore Mehling, C.S.C., was a man of polished, cultured demeanor, with a pleasant blend of firmness and affability. Growth identified his tenure in the aftermath of World War II, for it was he who acquired St. Joseph's Hall, Education Hall, Music Hall, the Steam plant and Psychology annex as war surplus buildings. He also initiated Engineering Hall and a new Pilot House. He expanded the curriculum by adding the School of Music, the School of Engineering and the department of Psychology even as he controversially dropped the football program citing it as too costly.
