At age 16 he immigrated first to Vancouver, BC, and then on to Portland, OR where he met and married Mary Potterton. After a brief and unprofitable time in Alaska panning for gold, Lauritz moved to Los Angeles, CA where he actively pursued his career as an artist, specializing in portraits and landscapes. Lauritz is recognized as a leading California Plen Air Impressionist, who worked with gigantic brushes, pre-war French bristles and palette knives to achieve a textural effect. The work of Paul Lauritz is held in numerous museums, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the San Diego Museum of Art.
