Consequently, they are a common food source for shorebirds and sea otters.Since the mole crab serves as the primary intermediate host for acanthocephalans parasites, they have been linked to a number of mortality events. Studies suggest that parasite development and transmission may be strongly effected by weather patterns. LiMPETs, a citizen science program, has collected data on the prevalence of infected crab along the California Coast. By segregating this data into El Nino/La Nina seasons, we use a differential equation model help to answer questions concerning weather effects on shorebird mortality."},{"label":"Publication Information","value":"Copyright for this work is retained by the author. 2017 Summer Research Celebration Project."},{"label":"Document Type","value":["poster"]},{"label":"Undergraduate Collection","value":["Mathematics Student Works"]},{"label":"Department","value":["Mathematics"]},{"label":"College & School","value":["College of Arts and Sciences"]},{"label":"Faculty Advisor","value":["Dr. James Peirce"]},{"label":"Publication Date","value":"D:00 M:00 Y:2017"}],"description":"Connecting parasite-infected crab data to shorebird mortality during El Ni˜no seasons","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/portland/iiif/b8ac4a11-2275-4f13-8cbe-2fd70dea05cb/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Connecting parasite-infected crab data to shorebird mortality dur-1","height":5400,"width":7201,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/portland/iiif/eccb7118-35d5-41e5-b10b-14b27e21eb0c/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/portland/iiif/eccb7118-35d5-41e5-b10b-14b27e21eb0c","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":2048,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":5400,"width":7201},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/portland/iiif/b8ac4a11-2275-4f13-8cbe-2fd70dea05cb/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/portland/iiif/eccb7118-35d5-41e5-b10b-14b27e21eb0c/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/portland/iiif/eccb7118-35d5-41e5-b10b-14b27e21eb0c/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/portland/iiif/logo"}
