The mass of Sever Hall, which provided lecture halls and classrooms on four floors, centers on the Roman arch of the main entrance, designed with a fine decorative use of brick. It is thought that the design of this building influenced the Portland, Oregon, architects, McCaw, Martin and White, in their design of West Hall in 1890. (cf.
