Realizing that its future was dim, it negotiated a merger with the University of Portland, which was finalized in August 1969. Then president Rev. Paul Waldschmidt, C.S.C., and the Board of Regents voted to perpetuate the name \"Multnomah College\" by giving the name to the School of Engineering. Dr. John Griffith, president of Multnomah College, was asked to join the University of Portland in the newly-created position of senior vice president. (cf. James T. Covert,  Point of Pride, p.228) The name, Multnomah School of Engineering, was discontinued in 1997. On December 3, 2010, the school became the Donald P.
