David Tyson, president, blessed the new Margaret Mary Galati Memorial on the U. of Portland campus. The memorial honors the Blessed Virgin Mary, the university's patroness and patroness of the United States, the Mother of God. It features an Italian bronze statue of the Virgin [cast by Demetz Studio in Ortisei, Italy] flanked by granite stones, which are themselves incised with the opening verse of Mary’s Magnificat in Luke's Gospel. The memorial, situated on the east side of the Chapel of Christ the Teacher, was funded by the Galati family of Portland in memory of the late Margaret Mary Galati, daughter of George and Ann (Hilger) Galati, both of the UP class of 1954, and the deceased members of the Farrell, Hilger, and Galati families. George is an adjunct professor of education at Portland. \"Margaret was a UP student at the time of her death.
