He studied in Paris under Auguste Rodin. He and his wife, painter and sculptor Elizabeth Kormendi, visited the US in 1939 and could not return to Hungary due to the outbreak of WWII. Eugene Kormendi found work at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana and remained there for his career.
