The collection was started by the Rev. John Scheberle, C.S.C., a professor of English and later the Dean of Arts and Sciences at UP from 1934 to 1946…. The oldest item in the collection is an 800-year-old book of psalms written in either Germany or Austria…. The 12th century Latin manuscript is in fairly good condition after being structurally restored in 1981… Sheepskin fragments from bibles and missals, which are prayer books used during a mass, are also displayed in the room. These items are dated from the 11th century to the 14th century Europe, the earliest being a fragment of a page from a French missal that includes the accompanying musical notations.
