A record crowd attended the opening ceremony and heard speeches by Rev. Joseph Donahue, C.S.C., University President and Archbishop Edward Howard. Those in attendance were treated to a swim meet and a basketball game between Columbia alumni and current students. Howard Hall boasts a main floor of Michigan maple and capable of seating 1000 people, a roomy stage, and at the opposite end, a cabinet for two moving picture machines. The new building also includes locker rooms, recreation rooms, and practice rooms for the music department.
