Located on the beach just east of Topanga Canyon, Ted's Rancho served clientele from the 1940s to the late 1970s. The site is a vacant lot today. In 1961, Vaughn (with co-owner Ted Wynkoop) converted his Drift Inn near the Malibu Pier to the Polynesian-themed Tonga Lei, which remained a popular eatery until it closed in 1987. In the following year, the owners built the Malibu Beach Inn at that location."},{"label":"Creator","value":["Creative Sales Catalysts"]},{"label":"Title","value":"Tonga Lei and Ted's Rancho Restaurant"},{"label":"Note","value":"Collected and donated by Eric Wienberg"}],"description":"Tonga Lei and Ted's Rancho Restaurant","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/pepperdine/iiif/d28fe043-6129-4348-8ecf-8ea53f6062a2/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Tonga Lei and Ted's Rancho Restaurant","height":2613,"width":860,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/pepperdine/iiif/d28fe043-6129-4348-8ecf-8ea53f6062a2/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/pepperdine/iiif/d28fe043-6129-4348-8ecf-8ea53f6062a2","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4,8]}]},"height":2613,"width":860},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/pepperdine/iiif/d28fe043-6129-4348-8ecf-8ea53f6062a2/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/pepperdine/iiif/d28fe043-6129-4348-8ecf-8ea53f6062a2/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/pepperdine/iiif/d28fe043-6129-4348-8ecf-8ea53f6062a2/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/pepperdine/iiif/logo"}
