This page includes clippings depicting the artist's rendering of the float design, titled \"Quest for Atlantis\". The Classical theme reflected Pepperdine's quest for academic excellence as it entered its fiftieth year in 1987. The student float representatives--the float decorators and riders--are shown below (standing, L to R): Mei-Ling Fong, Hung Le, Alyssa Allen, Scott Honour, Joel Rohrbough, and Shawn Watts; (seated, L to R): Renee Roque and Shashi Bhasin. The University had originally announced that six female students would ride the float (mirroring the six caryatids), but protests from students--particularly female students--lead to the more egalitarian selection of three female and three male students. There were two alternates, making eight students altogether.
