Traveling with a tourist party, they visited England, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Egypt, and Palestine (now Israel). George and his mother then left the party and traveled on to Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Singapore, French Indochina (Vietnam), Hong Kong, China, Japan, and Hawaii. Mary Pepperdine was particularly interested in visiting the Holy Land, and George met with local missionaries at numerous ports.
