The substation was located on Roosevelt Highway (later the Pacific Coast Highway) in the La Costa area of Malibu near Las Flores Canyon Road. The original building dates to 1933 and still stands today. The Sheriff's Substation moved to a new complex in the Civic Center area in 1972, before moving out of Malibu to Agoura Hills in 2001.
