The room depicted in The Inevitable appears more as a stage set than an actual interior. It was inspired in large part by the artist’s close reading of existential plays such as Samuel Becket’s Waiting for Godot. His complex, multivalent imagery includes numerous art historical references, such as the musical instruments that recall 17th-century Dutch still life paintings.
