Hand #1 and #2 unidentified (Rosenthal 903).\n<p>\nAnnotation text from the Salem Witch Trials: Restoring Justice exhibition:\n</p>\n<p>\nPhilip English submitted this petition, along with a detailed inventory of assets seized during  his imprisonment and fugitive flight to New York, to a committee set up by the Massachusetts  General Court to hear claims for compensation by people condemned in the trials. He states  that his estate was “squandered away” and “used to subsist the numerous company of  prisoners,” asking the committee to consider his “extraordinary sufferings.” However, English  had not been condemned and, as a result, was not granted reparations.
