The collective efforts of Black youth and their allies sparked the equal school rights movement in Salem, Boston, and later the state of Massachusetts. \n\nInspired by elders and contemporaries, these Black youth activists—Robert Morris, Sarah Parker Remond, and Charlotte Forten—authored editorials, spoke at organizational meetings, and submitted petitions to local school committees and the Massachusetts state legislature. A few white political leaders, such as Stephen Clarendon Phillips, supported their work. Youth leaders also found motivation in the intellectual endeavors of their activist peers, like William Cooper Nell, who encouraged them to organize and take action. The deeper their learning, the more conscious they became."},{"label":"Date","value":"D: M: Y:2022"},{"label":"Publisher","value":"Peabody Essex Museum"},{"label":"Language","value":["English"]},{"label":"Preferred Citation","value":"Peabody Essex Museum, Activists and Allies, 2022.
