Bowditch.\" <p> \nThe name is surrounded by an oval, ornamental border featuring flowers, a garland of leaves, and a ribbon. <p> \nBowditch was a mathematician, astronomer, navigator, and author of The New American Practical Navigator. He also translated into English the first four volumes of Laplace’s work on the gravitation of heavenly bodies, Celestial Mechanics.
