PhC.167.1 - color print photographic copy of an oval miniature, head and shoulders of Colonel Samuel Ashe, Jr.  PhC.167.2 - color print photographic copy of a painting attributed to Christian Mayr, 700 American School, 19th Century, depicting Colonel Samuel Ashe, Jr., his two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary Porter Moses, their children, Gratz Ashe Moses, Elizabeth Ashe Moses and John Ashe Moses.  Seated on the steps is a young slave, Santa Claus, holding the bridle of Dr. Moses' horse, Terrible.  Painted at Cape Fear, North Carolina, c.1845 at the Ashe Home \"The Neck\" in Pender County.  (According to Mrs. Carol Kregloh of the Smithsonian (an expert on dress) this painting was done c.1845.  Since Col. Ashe died in 1835, the painting was not done from life.  Col. Ashe was the son of NC Governor Samuel Ashe.  This painting is owned by the Moses Family.  Thomas Ashe Lockhart found this painting in Mobile, AL, c.1990 and facilitated the copying of it for the State of North Carolina.  These print photographic copies were sent to the State Archives in August 2011 from the Genealogy Section of the State Library in an envelope bearing the names of Pam Toms, former manager of the Genealogy Section of the State Library, and George Stevenson, former Private Manuscripts Archivist with the North Carolina State Archives."},{"label":"Digital Characteristics","value":"1 page"},{"label":"Format","value":["Finding aids"]},{"label":"Rights","value":"The SA of NC considers this item in the public domain by U.S. law but responsibility for permissions rests with researchers."},{"label":"Source Collections","value":["Colonel Samuel Ashe.
