Sanders to Alonzo T. Mial trying to sell people he had enslaved as well as land in Johnston County. The list is split into sections by families. Linn Sanders wrote in the letter that he did not wish for the families to be separated when purchased. Sam and Patsy were a couple whose children were David, Allen, and Emily. Henderson and Henry were listed as being Patsy's sons. Milly was the wife of Henry. Wesley, John, Louisa, and Jerry were their children. Austin and Sylvia were a couple. Cherry, Matilda, Hannah, Susan, Isaac, Margaret, Eliza, and Lucinda were their children. An infant who was deceased at the making of this list was also noted. Malinda was a house servant whose children were John, Verinda, St. Clair, Bettie, Lidnar, William, Cornelia, Selea Ann, and Fanny. Cremora, Martha, and Lucy were Fanny's children. Moses, Luck, [...et], Albert, Washington, Frank, and Simon were Fillis's children. The Records of Enslaved People in Private Collections digital collection draws from various private collections, offering glimpses into different points in the lives of enslaved individuals such as purchases, sales, births, and deaths. Due to their legal status, these records seldom reflect their own perspectives; however, they serve as poignant reminders of their humanity and the systemic coercion imposed upon them by others and by governmental structures. The collection includes, but is not limited to, bills of sale, correspondence, inventories, lists, wills, and administrative records, collectively shedding light on the often harsh realities faced by enslaved people in different historical contexts. Please note that this collection represents a selection of records from the State Archives of North Carolina, offering a glimpse into their experiences rather than a complete representation."},{"label":"Time Period","value":["(1820-1860) Antebellum"]},{"label":"Place","value":["Johnston County, North Carolina, United States"]},{"label":"Index Terms","value":"Sam (enslaved, b. 1809); Patsy (enslaved, b. 1809); Henderson (enslaved, b. 1833); David (enslaved, b. 1837); Allen (enslaved, b. 1840); Emily (enslaved, b. 1844); Henry (enslaved, b. approx 1830 or 1831); Netty (enslaved, b. 1833); Wesley (enslaved, b. 1847); John (enslaved, b. 1849); Louisa (enslaved, b. 1851); Jerry (enslaved, b. 1855); Austin (enslaved, b. 1811); Sylvia (enslaved, b. 1823); Cherry (enslaved, b. 1841); Matilda (enslaved, b. 1844); Hannah (enslaved, b. 1847); Susan (enslaved, b. 1851); Isaac (enslaved b. 1855); Margaret (enslaved b. 1839); Eliza (enslaved b. 1855); Lucinda (enslaved b. approx 1858 or 1859); Malenda (enslaved b. 1809); John (enslaved b. 1839); Verinda (enslaved b. 1841); St. Clair (enslaved b. 1843); Bettie (enslaved b. 1847); [L?]idnar (enslaved b. 1848); William (enslaved b. 1851); Cornelia (enslaved b. 1853); [S?]elea Ann (enslaved b. 1856); Fanny (enslaved b. 1837); Cremora (enslaved b. 1853); Martha (enslaved b. 1855); Lucy (enslaved b. 1857); Fillis (enslaved b. 1811); Mase (enslaved b. 1845); Luck (enslaved b. 1843); Het?
