Legend says that Mary Slocumb rode sixty miles alone in the night to come to the aid of the wounded soldiers after the battle of Moores Creek Bridge.  Although this story is strongly associated with the battle of Moores Creek Bridge and has been recorded and published many times from 1848 through the present day, the tale is largely fiction.  Mary and Ezekiel Slocumb were actual persons, and Ezekiel was a lieutenant who fought in the battle, the specific events of the legend have been discredited."},{"label":"Place","value":["Moores Creek National Battlefield, Pender County, North Carolina, United States"]},{"label":"Subject","value":["North Carolina--History--Revolution, 1775-1783"]},{"label":"Time Period","value":["(1990-current) Contemporary"]},{"label":"Abstract","value":"For the North Carolina Exploring Cultural Heritage Online (NC ECHO) project, 1999-2007, photos were taken of archives, historic houses, museums, libraries and more."},{"label":"Format","value":["Photographs"]},{"label":"Type","value":["Image"]},{"label":"Identifier","value":"ncecho_377014"}],"description":"Moores Creek National Battlefield","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f65fbdeb-2a1b-4ce1-81f2-ff3bb85119e6/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Moores Creek National Battlefield","height":1280,"width":960,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f65fbdeb-2a1b-4ce1-81f2-ff3bb85119e6/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f65fbdeb-2a1b-4ce1-81f2-ff3bb85119e6","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1280,"width":960},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f65fbdeb-2a1b-4ce1-81f2-ff3bb85119e6/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f65fbdeb-2a1b-4ce1-81f2-ff3bb85119e6/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f65fbdeb-2a1b-4ce1-81f2-ff3bb85119e6/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/logo"}
