She has not gotten the clothes he wrote about sending to her. She wants to visit him despite her husband urging her not to come to camp. She asks if he got the things she sent him and asks him to have someone else write for him since she has a hard time reading his letters. She doesn't want to hear anything else from George Brigen. She has heard that the Yankees are at Kinston and writes about the Confederate losses. All of John's family is well except for his father who is sick but getting better. She has plenty of paper so he doesn't need to send her more. Martin and Catherine Ramsey tell John to take care of himself; Martin adds that he hears that John is suffering for want of things to eat, that times are very hard in North Carolina and Martin expects them to get worse.
