Subjects include entertainments, education at various schools, postwar poverty, life in Baltimore, freedmen in Raleigh on Fourth of July (1869), new town of Ridgeway (1869), the Roulhae, Smedes, Mordecai, Manly, and other families, and Mrs. Mary Johnson Iredell of St. Mary's. There are school reports from St. Mary's, essays, programs, and recipes (1841). Also papers (1853-1859) of Margaret Nelson Strange, wife of Superior Court Judge Robert Strange, including letters from him while on circuit, letter to him from James C.
