Everyone in camp says he should be discharged. He misses his wife and family. It rains or snows every day there. Charley is well. John asks how the situation is at home. He sent a cap by John Robishand and wants his wife to write him when it arrives. He plans to send a coat and shirt to her by T. L. Laine because he has more clothes than he can carry. He still hasn't drawn any money yet but expects to soon and will try to send her money by T. L. Laine as well. He hasn't slept well recently. The soldiers have been having snow ball fights but he hasn't been able to participate. John describes the public punishment of a man charged with cowardice.
