State Archives of North Carolina"},{"label":"Language","value":["English"]},{"label":"Description","value":"Collection of correspondence, most (1762-1770) from Henry Eustace McCullough, member of the council, collector for Port Roanoke, and agent for the colony in London after 1768, to Edmund Fanning discussing personal and romantic matters, land sales, politics, attack on his surveyors at Sugar Creek (1765), repeal of the court laws, his efforts in London on behalf of the province, British politics, and unrest in Britain (1768). Several of his letters (1767-1771) from London are to Speaker John Harvey and the committee of correspondence about assembly's petition to the king (1769) and Secretary of State Hillsborough's views on the Townshend Acts and emission of currency by colonies; method of choosing agent; reactions to War of the Regulation; bounty on staves; the North and South Carolina boundary; and protection of currency against counterfeiters. His letters in 1783 concern his petition to the General Assembly for restoration of property and the desire in Britain for reconciliation. Letters from Edmund Fanninf, Hillsborough lawyer, secretary to Governor Tryon, superior court judge, militia colonel, and later governor of Prince Edward Island, concern Regulators in Orange Co. (1767) and movements of Tryon's troops after defeat of the Regulators (1771). Also description of Warm Springs (Ga.?), 1765, and letters to godson John Fanning Burgwin in Wilmingtion (1805, 1806).
