State Archives of North Carolina"},{"label":"Language","value":["English"]},{"label":"Description","value":"These papers represent the various personal professional files of Dr. Betty Hutchinson Wiser, including campaign materials, subject files on aging and health, papers relating to women's issues and organizations, including League of Women Voters and the International Women's Year.    Dr. Wiser, sociologist, home economist, and former state legislator was born in Shelby, Ohio in 1931 and died while on vacation in the Bahamas on February 18, 2010 while involved in two of her strong interests - travelling and meeting new people. After living in Raleigh for a number of years, her legal residence was in Falls Church, Virginia at the time of her death.    She was educated in the College of Wooster, Ohio State University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Southern California. She held a double master's in home economics and sociology with a doctorate in adult education. She became a champion for Women's Rights and Senior's Issues, and the cause to fight osteoporosis. She had served as the NC president of the League of Women Voters, a representative in the NC General Assembly, director of the Wake County Council on Aging. Among various other positions, Dr. Wiser had served as the head of the Older Adult Health Branch in the NC Health Department.    This collection is not available for research at this time.
