James Easton of Pitt Co. Letters to Easton (1803-1811) are from agents Thomas Dillon in Tennessee and Philemon Beecher in Ohio about land and land warrants sold him by speculators Stockley Donelson and William Tyrrell; from Congressmen William Dickson, William Blackledge, and John Rhea about bill allowing Tennessee to grant land (1804-1805); and from Dillon about the Tennessee legislature and its land act (1806-1807). Potter's correspondence (1811-1821) concerns his children's claims to land willed them by Easton, with letters from Dillon, Beecher, John Haywood, John C. McLemore, Col. John McIver, and Judge James Trimble about military warrants granted Thomas Massey and Robert Young; confusion and fraud in land warrants; and the Tennessee land acts. Other papers include depositions about Massey's Revolutionary service and information on Donelson's movements in 1796. Donelson's papers (1795-1797) include letters to him about western land, Revolutionary War certificates, and slaves, and his surveying instructions to Tyrrell and James W. Lackey.
