Troop Returns include lists, returns, records of prisoners, and records of draftees. Lists are usually pay or muster rolls. Most of the returns are field or general returns, and report the names of the officers and the number of enlisted men under their command (but not the names of each soldier). Prisoners records may be lists of British prisoners or of North Carolina Line officers captured by the British. Drafts and enlistments records give the names of enlisted men and sometimes take the form of descriptive lists that also include height, age, coloring, etc., of each soldier.
