Early drawings and blueprints include drawings of equipment built for gold, copper, and kaolin mines in the Carolinas and Colorado (1882-1918); a few maps of unidentified mines; plats of ironworks property and buildings (n.d.); and drawings of ornamental ironwork. Most are blueprints of later date (ca. 1945-ca. 1964) for supermarkets, service stations, warehouses, sewage treatment plants, fire stations, stores, office buildings, churches, and residences for which the ironworks was a subcontractor; and drawings of machinery, towers, ducts, and other practical and ornamental metalwork. Volumes are ledgers and journals (1866-1939), order books (1877-1946), and customer priority ratings for defense contracts (1943-1944). Letters deal chiefly with orders placed in the 1940s and 1950s, and there are some audit records, balance statements, and other financial papers from that period. One folder contains personal and business correspondence of John R. Wilkes, Jr. (1944-1945)."},{"label":"Digital Characteristics","value":"1 page"},{"label":"Format","value":["Finding aids"]},{"label":"Rights","value":"The SA of NC considers this item in the public domain by U.S. law but responsibility for permissions rests with researchers."},{"label":"Source Collections","value":["Mecklenburg Iron Works Records.
