Mike Easley today presented legislators with an overview of his 2006 education agenda and announced plans to improve North Carolina students' reading and writing skills by placing literacy coaches in middle schools throughout the state. The innovative proposal, announced at the James B. Hunt Institute's annual Legislators Retreat in Durham, will provide schools with reading coaches who will train teachers on ways to help struggling readers.
