She has heard from Langley who says his unit is being sent to Charleston and that food supplies are scarce. Union troops are taking all of the meat from some of the locals. She tells Henry a story about Rofe Wallis getting drunk when Plymouth fell and telling everyone that the Yankees were coming, resulting in a general panic. She was so afraid after talking to Rofe Wallis that she didn't dare leaving the house even to go to the cook house. Cornelia Ann is still sick. Ann is sending Henry thread and Confederate money.
