Kent, Sr., of Lenoir, Caldwell Co., consisting of letters (1882-1974), notes, family trees, obituaries, clippings, biographical sketches concerning history of the Kents and related families. Original papers of John Kent of Fluvanna Co., Va., are mainly estate papers (1823-1826). Those of Archelaus Kent (1778-1855) include deeds for land in Virginia and in Burke and Caldwell counties (1796-1852); slave bill of sale (1830); agreements and receipts; and a few items relating to father-in-law Abraham Sudderth. Papers of Abraham S. Kent (1831-1885) include notes on his Civil War service and a few receipts and deeds. Also genealogical material on descendants of Robert Kent of Virginia and other related families such as Perkins, Sudderth, Miller, Vannoy, and Wright. Miscellaneous items are commencement program, Wilson Collegiate Institute for Young Ladies (1893); essay against compulsory education; and a series of newspaper articles on \"Gentleman\" John Perkins of Lincoln Co.
