Sawyer, age 67 and a resident of Gum Neck, N.C. In addition to the application, there is an affidavit by D. C. Sawyer, son of John A. Sawyer, stating that his father 'is very feeble and weak, is suffering from Bright's disease, and is rapidly becoming blind'' According to the affidavit John A. Sawyer began serving in Company B, 3rd Battalion, Edenton Bell Battery, N.C. State Troops on or about 1863. D. C. Sawyer's statement was taken before W. M. Brickhouse, Clerk of Superior Court in Tyrrell County.   This item was scanned as part of the American Civil War Sesquicentennial commemoration at the North Carolina State Archives.
