Crawford (1809-1893), a merchant and farmer of Anson County, was a native of South Carolina. This letter, dated from White's Store, N.C:, December 9, 1856, was written to a brother in another state. Crawford complains that the presidential election campaign of 1856 has been violent and bitter in every state, but states that conservative principles have won out over sectional fanaticism.
