Mike Easley announced today that federal Department of Defense procurement spending in North Carolina increased 33 percent last year, to nearly $3 billion, with the spending benefiting several areas outside the state's traditional military centers. North Carolina also increased its share of total Department of Defense spending on goods and services to 1.2 percent in 2005 from 1 percent a year earlier. Last year spending was $2.95 billion compared with $2.21 billion the year before. An analysis of the data was prepared by the N.C.
