He was governor from April 20, 1780 until 25 June 1781. The fall of Charles Town, the defeat at Camden, and depleted resources of the state all gave heart to the Loyalist faction of the state which was estimated to have been half of the state's population. Governor Nash, finding the General Assembly and his own Council too dispersed and unwieldy to be of much help in guiding a state at war, requested a Board of War of three members. He soon regretted his request. Early on the members proved inadequate for their task and later actively opposed the governor, intercepting his correspondence with the generals in the field and flouting his authority as commander in chief. Due to Health reasons Nash declined nomination for a second term. This collection contains the correspondence of Governor Nash from April 1780 through June 1781."},{"label":"Physical Characteristics","value":"1 Letter"},{"label":"Format","value":["Letters (Correspondence)"]},{"label":"Rights","value":"This item is provided courtesy of the State Archives of North Carolina and is a public record according to G.S.132.;"},{"label":"Source Collections","value":["Governors’ Papers.
