They went to James Island, but had no fight, then retreated back to NC. The troops were told to leave their clothes and belongings on the ship Indian Chief during the retreat from James Island and many items were stolen, although Henry says that he didn't lose much. He asks about the family, sends his sympathy over the death of Ann's aunt, and figures the war will end soon.
