Mike Easley today put National Guard and swift water rescue units on standby and Department of Transportation recovery crews in place in coastal areas of North Carolina with the arrival of Tropical Storm Gabrielle. The state's Emergency Operations Center was activated late Friday and continues to closely monitor the storm. Gabrielle is bringing of winds up to 45 mile per hour as it moves up through the Outer Banks from Cape Lookout. It is expected to drop two to three inches of rain with the possibility of minor flooding.
