NCST to the police guard of the provost marshal, Army of Northern Virginia, and later captain of Co. C, 49th Regt. NCT. Descriptions include activities of military police; battles of New Bern, Petersburg Mine Assault, and Five Forks; evacuation of Manassas Junction (1862); execution of deserter; skirmish with Negro cavalry unit; and Gens. Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson, Richard S. Ewell, and Robert E. Lee. There are wartime letters from family in Iredell Co. (1863-1864); and postwar letters, several from Thomas R. Roulhac, Hillsborough, about servants, schools, President Andrew Johnson, and poverty (1866). Also copies of records relating to John Hinds in Randolph and Guilford counties, and Roane Co., Tenn. (1779-1824).
