She sent a box to Thomas but he deserted before it arrived and the box was opened before the others she sent items to could get to it. John Bayner went into the 32nd North Carolina Infantry and may have been killed or captured in Virginia; Ann is trying to find out news about what happened to him for his wife. Thomas went to the Yankees and has written that he is working as an agent for the railroads in New Bern making 40 dollars a month. She tells him the local news about their family and friends. The local view is that the Yankees will stay in Plymouth because the rivers are valuable. She had previously written about the fortification of Leechville and many Unionists families are coming back to that area. Many children have died. Langley is with the 17th North Carolina Infantry. She hopes Henry can come home soon.
