For much of the interview, Brooker focuses on her connection to her family and the generational effects of being Lumbee and Sappony Indian. She also dives into her teaching career and working with the Commission of Indian Affairs. She remembers the places she visited across the Southeastern United States. This interview was conducted by Kerry Bird, from the American Indian Heritage Commission, on June 2, 2024. The Oral History collection contains interviews conducted and acquired by the Oral History Unit of the State Archives of North Carolina. This unit seeks to work with individuals and communities across the state to record and preserve the lived experience of North Carolinians, as told by North Carolinians and to make these histories accessible for generations to come. This interview contains content that may be harmful or difficult to view, including language that reflects outdated, biased, offensive views as well as descriptions of conflict, racism, and violence."},{"label":"Date","value":"D:2 M:6 Y:2024"},{"label":"Rights","value":"All rights for this interview held by State Archives of North Carolina.
