The Peanut Man always occupied a spot in the square at the head of Fayetteville Street, dispensing his wares from a silver-colored charcoal-fired roaster, and surrounded by flocks of pigeons. Kids loved him. The state initiated a crackdown in the mid 1970s to get rid of them, and the first thing to go was the Peanut Man. This photo was taken c.1973 by Count Hayes, owner of the Raleigh studio Count Hayes Photography. Donated by Hayes' son, Anthony Hayes, in September 2010."},{"label":"Digital Characteristics","value":"1 page"},{"label":"Format","value":["Finding aids"]},{"label":"Rights","value":"The SA of NC considers this item in the public domain by U.S. law but responsibility for permissions rests with researchers."},{"label":"Source Collections","value":["Count Hayes Photograph Collection.
