He asks about the situation at home, and gives instructions about what to plant in various farm plots. He also offers his wife advice about family houses or buildings that are evidently vacant and attracting vandals. He is concerned about the mail, not only the availability of postage stamps but whether the Yankees will stop the mail between North and South Carolina. He asks about his brothers. He believes the war will end soon as things do not look well and troop morale is low. He has heard the Union captured Ft. Fisher and Wilmington.
