Francis longs for home and writes about some soldiers who have been wounded or killed recently. He recaps news from Martha's letter about Jonathan Walker, Henry Dale and her brother Thomas. He apologizes for causing trouble between his mother and Martha by writing, in part: &quot;...I Did not think of making you mad Dear Wife I would not put any thing to trouble you if I can help it I just thot that Mother was abler to send me a box than you was and I Did not think any harm...&quot; He has sent her all the money he has. He doesn't know why she isn't getting his letters since he is writing her every week but he is sending this letter with James Duncan to make sure she gets it. He lists the types of food he wants her to send him.
