Superior Court of Equity (1814-1825), many of which concern court actions, especially estate settlements of Michael Capehart, Charles Hardy, Thomas Worley, and Susan and Thomas West. Letters (1819-1834) about court cases in Windsor, Raleigh, and elsewhere are from his successor Charles W. Jacocks, and from Calvin Jones, Romulus M. Saunders, James H. Smith, and Stark Armistead. A notebook (1814-1815) records fees received. Business letters, receipts, accounts, and bills of lading mainly concern shipment of cotton and staves to Plymouth, Norfolk, Va., and New York, and a five-year contract guarantees sale of cotton to Simon Oliveira, Edenton merchant (1826). Papers relating to hire and sale of slaves include letter from a slave (1824) and a letter from Murfreesboro reporting the Nat Turner slave uprising in Southampton Co., Va. (1831). There are bills for medical treatment and letters of medical advice. Letters from F. M. and Penelope B. Capehart in Murfreesboro concern religious services (Methodist?), and there are records (1828-1831) of construction of White Oak Meeting House, Sunday school books ordered, and contributors. Other letters are from teacher describing his search in Bertie, Northampton, and Halifax counties for community able to support a school (1827) and from residents of Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Alabama about business in North Carolina. There are also miscellaneous court papers, including warrant in a bastardy case (Bertie Co., 1783)."},{"label":"Digital Characteristics","value":"2 pages"},{"label":"Format","value":["Finding aids"]},{"label":"Rights","value":"The SA of NC considers this item in the public domain by U.S. law but responsibility for permissions rests with researchers."},{"label":"Source Collections","value":["Benajah Nicholls Papers.
