Correspondence is mostly  personal during Branch's residence in Florida (1838-1851),  relating especially to finances, farming, and sale of cotton.  Letters from Branch's nephew L. H. B. Whitaker of Enfield and son- in-law Gen. Daniel S. Donelson concern family and local matters; and a few letters relate to Branch's service as Florida-Georgia  boundary commissioner (1846, n.d.). Items from his earlier  career are congratulatory or social. From the periods of his  residence in Enfield are letters from Spier Whitaker concerning  disagreement with Branch (1831) and a letter from Branch in 1861  commenting on secession sentiment in the state. Several letters  and other items concern the removal of son William from Alabama  to Florida (1850) and William as executor of his father's will  (1863). Also included are William's Florida law license (1845);  deed of gift of Negro girl (1854); list of slaves, with ages and  values (1849); and requisition of slaves to complete  fortifications around Tallahassee (1864)."},{"label":"Digital Characteristics","value":"1 page"},{"label":"Format","value":["Finding aids"]},{"label":"Rights","value":"The SA of NC considers this item in the public domain by U.S. law but responsibility for permissions rests with researchers."},{"label":"Source Collections","value":["John Branch Papers"]}],"description":"John Branch (1782-1863) Papers, 1822-1865","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/7c17c688-62b2-493e-89d3-a76628447739/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Branch_John_Papers_MfP111_Final-1","height":1683,"width":1263,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/c62dea2f-40a3-4f73-8367-a9602e5f39ac/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/c62dea2f-40a3-4f73-8367-a9602e5f39ac","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1683,"width":1263},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/7c17c688-62b2-493e-89d3-a76628447739/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/c62dea2f-40a3-4f73-8367-a9602e5f39ac/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/c62dea2f-40a3-4f73-8367-a9602e5f39ac/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/logo"}
