Sharrock, Windsor, and others in Bertie and adjoining counties, most of whom were related to or had their estates administered by Sharrock, his father-in-law Turner Horne, or W. D. Horne. Papers of Sharrock include business letters, accounts, and receipts (1834-1874), many concerning trade with Norfolk, Va., or slave purchase and hire; copies of annual letters to Chowan Association from Republican Baptist Church (1863-1864); Bertie Co. bonds, 1863-1864; a few Civil War letters, one from cavalryman near Kinston (1862), and letters from Tennessee (1866); militia notice (Dec., 1865); labor agreements with freedmen (1865-1869); and clipping \"To the Colored Man of Virginia\" (n.d.). Estate papers (1763-1863) for over twenty people include lists of slaves, accounts and receipts, some guardian records, a few Bertie and Northampton Co. deeds and grants (1722-1828), and copies of wills of Moses Pirvis (1808) and James S. Grover (n.d.). The account books are a postmaster's record of letters and receipts (1808-1825); Sharrock's accounts for provisions, hire of slaves (1835-1850) and laborers (1865-1870), and estate of H. H. Hardy (1861-1862); inventory of goods sold by Watson and Brother to Thomas B. Hardy (1859), and general store accounts, Woodville (1859-1861) and accounts of H. H. Hardy and Brother (1858-1861) and H. H. Hardy estate (1861-1865). Miscellaneous items include list of Cashie Neck militia under Starkey Skiles (1821); list of Turner Horne's slaves, their mothers and birth dates (1792-1840); photocopy map of area; miscellaneous letters from Texas (1847), Alabama (1860), Tennessee (1866), and Georgia (1868); and annual reports from 42 justices of the peace to the Board of County Commissioners, Bertie Co., 1898.
