(1793- 1798), from family and friends in Granville Co. and Petersburg con- cerning local news, horse racing, war between France and England and its effect on trade, the hiring in Virginia of French immigrants (1796), buying of western lands, and the scarcity of money. A few let- ters relate to business of Fenwick and Dabney. Later letters to Smith and wife in Granville Co. concern purchase of land in Kentucky (1805) and a saltpeter contract (1814).
