Included in his correspondence are letters from John Motley Morehead, grandson of Governor Morehead, describing Rockingham Co. hanging of Negro woman Tildy Carter in 1881; from H. A. Page, Sr., on the Walter Hines Page home in Cary; and from S. A. Ashe and Bierne Lay on the friendship between Gen. R. E. Lee and Bishop Thomas Atkinson. Other letters concern routing of a highway through Raleigh (1930); a parachute jump (1934); Fort Bragg, Calif.; Col. Charles C. Tew of the Citadel and Hillsborough Academy; and Episcopal missionaries in Liberia. Also a typed report on Masonic educational loan funds (1924); printed material about Roanoke Island, including review (1931) of film on the \"Lost Colony\" made by North Carolina for school instruction; and printed eulogy for educator John J. Blair (1938).   Civil War material includes cavalry commissions and parole of Capt. A. B. Andrews; certification of vote by Orange Co. soldier (1864); letter from a Confederate soldier (Mar., 1865); photograph of site of skirmish (Sept., 1863) at Jack's Shop, Va.; photograph of Henry Lawson Wyatt, first Confederate killed in battle; New Testament published by Confederate States Bible Society, 1862; and Confederate Soldier's Prayer Book by the Rev. Joseph W. Murphy (n.d.). Also in collection are appoint- ment and invitations for A. B. Andrews, Sr., to the World's Columbian Exposition (1893); and a pamphlet, WASHINGTON: HIS PERSON AS REPRESENTED BY THE ARTISTS.
