John has heard talk that they might come back to North Carolina soon and if they do then she can come to him. There is cannon fire today above Fredericksburg. The Yankees are so close that the men in John's company can talk to the Union forces across the lines. He doesn't need her to send him any clothes or socks. Also he expresses outrage that Martha's sister's corn had been stolen and thinks the girls Martha wrote about in her recent letter should find something better to do than scare an old man. He wants to be home for William's funeral but doesn't expect to be able to make it."},{"label":"Identifier","value":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630420"}],"description":"Letter: John Futch to Martha Futch, April 20, 1863","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/6f9c3660-0bb3-486d-a450-8c207f325f29/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630420_001","height":1300,"width":920,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/441ef46c-a028-4dc0-8c0b-2350e23d16d1/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/441ef46c-a028-4dc0-8c0b-2350e23d16d1","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1300,"width":920},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/6f9c3660-0bb3-486d-a450-8c207f325f29/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/441ef46c-a028-4dc0-8c0b-2350e23d16d1/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/6f9c3660-0bb3-486d-a450-8c207f325f29/canvas/_2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630420_002","height":1330,"width":931,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/cebf387a-58d1-4847-86ad-dc98b5f455a8/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/cebf387a-58d1-4847-86ad-dc98b5f455a8","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"},"height":1330,"width":931},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/6f9c3660-0bb3-486d-a450-8c207f325f29/canvas/_2","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/cebf387a-58d1-4847-86ad-dc98b5f455a8/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/441ef46c-a028-4dc0-8c0b-2350e23d16d1/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/logo"}
