Arthur Avery Totten speaks about his experience as an African American man living in Greensboro, North Carolina. Totten recounts events in his childhood neighborhood. This interview was conducted by B. Bernetiae Reed on August 27, 2023, for the South Benbow Road National Register of Historic Places Nomination and in collaboration with the City of Greensboro Historic Planning Office. South Benbow Road is a historically Black neighborhood in Greensboro, North Carolina and this project helps preserve the neighborhood and city’s history through the voices of its residents. The Oral History collection contains interviews conducted and acquired by the Oral History Unit of the State Archives of North Carolina.
